public transport - öffentliche verkehrsmittel

since elli and nichole requested some stories from south africa i want to start with something that amazed me. i know in the states you dont have that much public transport either but still - it is amazing what i'm going to tell you.

in south africa there is no public transport. the special thing about it is the following: since most of the south african people can't afford their own car and they still have groceries and other stuff to carry home, there are shared taxis driving around (white mini-vans) that are picking up people with no specific route. they take people until the taxi is full. of course this service is very cheap, that's why the taxis are typically more then just full. it was still very amazing to me and i saw some of these shared taxis - but unfortunately i was not quick enough to make my own pics. that's why the pic down below is from a mini. trust me - there are no minis in south africa :)

nachdem elli und nichole nach geschichten von meinem trip nach südafrika gefragt haben wollte ich euch was erzählen, was mich wirklich fasziniert hat (weil ich sowas vorher noch nie gesehen hab - maximal bilder... aber nicht in natura). ich weiss, dass es in den vereinigten staaten normalerweise keine öffis gibt (ausser in den großstädten) aber das ist noch einen tick besser.

nachdem sich die meisten südafrikaner kein eigenes auto leisten können, sie aber trotzdem ihre lebensmittel usw heimschaffen müssen, gibt es dort sammeltaxis. das sind weisse mini-vans (damit man sie auch erkennt...) die ohne bestimmte route durch die gegend fahren und leute aufsammeln und heim bringen. das ist natürlich billig... und deshlab sind sie immer überfüllt. ist kein scherz - das ist wirklich so. nachdem ich zu langsam war, ein foto davon zu machen, ist das foto von dem mini nur symbolisch gemeint (aber so ungefähr hats wirklich ausgeschaut). glaubt mir: es gibt keine minis in südafrika :)
